Telangana woman constable killed by brother, cops hint at honour killing

A woman police constable was brutally murdered by her brother in a suspected case of honour killing near Telangana’s Raipole village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal, Ranga Reddy district, on Monday.
The victim, Nagamani, was working at the Hayathnagar police station and had married Srikanth, a man from another caste, a fortnight ago. Her family had reportedly opposed the intercaste marriage.
The attack occurred while Nagamani was riding her scooter from Raipole to Manneguda. According to police, Paramesh, her brother, deliberately rammed her scooter with his car. When she fell, he attacked her with a machete, leaving her in a pool of blood. Nagamani died on the spot due to grievous injuries.
Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and confirmed Nagamani’s death. “We suspect that her brother was enraged by her love marriage and killed her in an act of honour killing,” a senior officer said.
Nagamani, 2020 batch police constable, had reportedly gone against her family’s wishes by marrying Srikanth, which led to tensions within the family.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to apprehend the accused, who fled the scene after the attack. Police are also looking into other angles, including any property disputes.
